Year-end closing and surplus appropriation
At year end the Exco closes the financial year and appropriates the surplus in the accounts, without rebuilding the numbers in a spreadsheet.
- Close a completed financial year: KoopManager works out the net surplus or deficit from the year's ledger activity and posts closing entries to Retained Earnings
- Appropriate the surplus to the ledger accounts your society decides on, such as a statutory reserve, education fund or dividend payable, as a percentage or a fixed amount for each line
- Appropriate in stages: any surplus not yet allocated stays in Retained Earnings
- Reverse a closing or an appropriation with mirrored entries, so the history stays intact
- Dividend payable balances flow into a per-member dividend distribution that needs approval before payout
